Alexey Mordashov (also sometimes spelled Alexei Mordashov) is a successful Russian capitalist. Born on September 26, 1965, Mordashov has served as the CEO of Severstal, Russia’s leading steel producing company, since 1996.
Mordashov graduated from the St. Petersburg Engineering and Economics University and received his MBA from the Newcastle Business School at University of Northumbria. Mordashov was also awarded honorary doctorates from St. Petersburg Engineering and Economics University and from the University of Northumbria in 2001 and 2003, respectively.
Mordashov began his career with Severstal in 1988 as an in-house economist before being appointed CFO in 1992. After being appointed CEO in 1996, he was elected chairman of the board of directors in 2002.
In addition to his roles within Severstal, Mordashov also serves on the Russian Federation’s entrepreneurs council. He is a member of the EU-Russia Business Cooperation Council, and has served as the chairman of the Belgium-based World Steel Association since 2011.
